David Cangelosi

“David Cangelosi has developed into America’s leading character tenor…” – a snippet review from the Seattle Times, and a testament to David Cangelosi’s distinguished career as an operatic artist.  Cangelosi is an established presence with the Metropolitan Opera in New York and Lyric Opera of Chicago, where he made his debut in Salome in 1996.  His time with these premier companies have included roles in Madame Butterfly, Andrea Chenier, Carmen, and his signature role of ‘Mime’ in Siegfried and Das Rheingold.  David’s imprint can be found throughout the United States and internationally, having performed with San Francisco Opera, Washington Opera, Paris Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Saito-Kinen Festival (Japan), and recordings with EMI Classics, London.  His list of other engagements is as lengthy as it is impressive, including PBS’ “Live from Kennedy Center” series in Il Pagliacci starring Placido Domingo, The Magic Flute with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, Abduction from the Seraglio with the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, and his Carnegie Hall debut with one of the world’s finest, the Cleveland Orchestra.

Cangelosi has left his mark on the silver screen as well, with a role in the film adaptation of the opera Tosca, which had its premiere at the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals.  Currently, Cangelosi continues a multi-year recording and performance project with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and will enjoy upcoming concerts with the Boston Symphony and Cleveland Orchestras.  He will also tour Europe extensively in 2017.  In addition to the above, David is the Artistic/Program Director of the Vann Vocal Institute in Montgomery, Alabama, and actively travels the country as a recitalist, symphonic guest-artist, competition adjudicator, and Master Class instructor for aspiring vocalists.  David was born and raised in Seven Hills.
